A handsome oval lidded container, possibly a tea caddy, with patterned gilded copper mounts, the body masterfully cut in a variety of square shield and channel designs, the plain lid mounted with a gilt handle, the under-base is embellished with steps. Condition: re-polishing to nicks and edges; small circle of wear to the lid caused by the handle; some surface wear; rubbing to the gilt; nothing further found. Circa 1800, possibly earlier, likely to be Irish in origin. Height 9cm/3.54in, width 10.5cm/4.14in; depth 6.8cm/2.68in.
