A handsome rhomboid and triangular form crystal dressing table bottle, with a cork lined hammer finish sterling silver screw top. The crystal body is masterfully worked in the Battuto technique with a pattern of indentations, each rhomboid panel features an clear lens, the shoulder is engraved with cross cut canes, the base is embellished with a twenty four point star. Condition: stand wear to the under-base; small, now polished out, bruise to one panel; light surface wear; nothing further found; good screw closure. Silver hallmarked for London 1891 maker's mark "S.M." for Sampson Mordan, the under base with stylus registry number "168686", crystal very possibly Thomas Webb & Sons. Article measured in centimetres and rounded to the nearest quarter inch. Height 11cm/4.5, width 6cm/2.5in.
